Ooops ... Where Did That Week Go? New York City Hop-On Hop-Off

(Apoligies in advance for any mistakes ... we had dinner at the Longhorn Steakhouse where I had a rather large blackberry and blueberry margarita) .

It has been metnioned in certain quarters that I haven't blogged for a week .... a combination of sooooooo busy, and no working Wi-Fi at days Inn Winston-Salem which had seen better days ... probably about 40 years ago. I'll write a quick recap, but it will mostly be in pictures.

New York is an insanely vibrant, totally crazy, completely awesome, and from-another-planet city that, like Venice, all descriptions, photos, and videos fail to capture. If you're been there you'll know what I mean; if you haven't, I can't explain it to you.

I've laready covered our first day; on our second, we successfully walked/bussed/subwayed into town, and then took an open top Hop On-Hop Off buss tour, our preferred method of getting around a city in just one day. We did a downtown loop that took us past such sites as the Empire State Building (90 minute wait to go up ... PASS), macy's Carnegie Hall, Flatiron, East Village, and the United Nations, hopped off for lunch at Times Square, then did the uptown loop around the perimeter of Central Park. Which is big. An hour and a half for the bus to drive around it.

The forecast was for torrentiaial rain ... we got this :)

We saw this and thought of our friend Pete ... his kind of place!
Really wanted to see The Lion King, but considered an 8pm West End Show, get out at 10 or 11pm, hour and a half home on the subway/bus/three block walk ... decided, not this trip :(

Times Square!

Horsie-drawn carriage thru Central Park ... had to be done

So much stuff, so little luggage space :(

Our final day we went back into town and met a friend, Eddie, in Central park, did the horse-ride touristy thing through the park, Eddie laughed at me getting over-excited by squirrles, and we had a fabulous lunch that cost as much as lunch would cost in New Zealand, which is way expensive by NZ standards. Eddie told us the average rent of a 3-bdr apartment in Manhattan is $12-15,000 per month. And we Kiwis think Auckland is bad!!!

  1. Great photos, Kaz. Yes the grill would definitely be a stop for me :-) I liked Ferhad's selfie. You both look relaxed in the horsey thing, good on you!
